William C (Bill) Billings, STCM (SOC), USN passed away at his home in Landis, NC on 24 Jun 2005.  Bill was a Sonarman First Class during his 1951 to 1955 tour aboard the USS Rich.  He continued his US Navy career eventually retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer.

Of the various duty stations to which he was attached during his career, Key West, Florida was among his favorites.  He became a resident there both as a sailor and civilian for many years.

Bill was a familiar face at USS Rich reunions until 2003 along with his wife Kit.  Also familiar was their RV which they enjoyed for many years touring many areas of North America. Bill and Kit  were married 57 years, 6 months and 4 days at the time of his death.

In a letter, Kit told  of Bill's valiant fight against Cancer for the past 14 years.  His spirit was very evident to someone meeting him for the first time.  Bill was an active member and ardent supporter of the USS Rich Association.

He will be missed by all.
