A native of Hominy, Okla., Mr. Harris retired from the United States Navy after 27 years of service and also from the International Longshoreman's Association. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and was a Bronze Star recipient.

Mr. Harris is survived by one son, William F. Harris of Norfolk; one sister, Ruth Lanier of Chesapeake; a brother, Herschel Harris Jr. of Yantis, Texas; and a granddaughter, Virginia M. Harris of Imperial Beach, Calif.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with Father Frances Meunch officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
