SHELBY — Mr. Hoyt O’Neal Hicks, 72, of 510 Frost Place, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at home.

A native of Inman, S.C., he was retired from Lowes Foods where he was a retail store manager.
He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and served in the Navy in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Whitlaw and Margaret Bradley Hicks.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Lewallen Hicks of the home; a son, Danny Hicks of Shelby; three
sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Margaret Hicks of Charleston, S.C., Bill and Sharon Hicks
and Randy and Melanie Hicks, all of Shelby; two stepsons, Scott Raines of Kings Mountain and
Shane Raines of Charlotte; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold and Sudie Hicks of Lenoir and
Norris Hicks of Greenville, S.C.; four special friends, Tammy and Brian Hawkins and Jacob and
Jordon of Tryon; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Webb
and Mr. Brian Hawkins officiating.

Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and other times
at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of
Cleveland County.
