HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - John Marvin Mahoney, 86, Hopkinsville, Ky passed away at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville after a long illness.

A native of Louisville, Ky born December 17, 1927, he was the son of the late John Robert and Catherine Lillian Howard Mahoney. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and served on the USS Rich.

Mr. Mahoney had been a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church since 1958 and was an active member of Knights of Columbus. He had been a radio station engineer first with WPKY in Princeton from 1950-1958, then at the old WKOA radio in Hopkinsville for 17 years, and finally at WHOP where he stayed until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara June Fralick Mahoney, three sons; Patrick Mahoney and his wife Geri, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Mark Mahoney of Hopkinsville and Brian Mahoney and his wife Robin of Madison, Tennessee, one daughter, Deanna Mahoney Wolfe and her husband Tony, Westerville, Ohio, one brother, William Mahoney and his wife Mary of Beuchel, Ky , two sisters; Sr. Amanda Rose, Louisville, Ky and Betty White of Navarre, Florida, four grandchildren; Joshua Mahoney, Mac Church, Lisa Davis and Evan Wolfe, and eleven great-grandchildren; Mackenzie Church, Jacob Church, Jaydon Church, Logan Church, Austen Church, Nick Church, Shelby Dorč, Olivia Dorč, Godreich Davis, Rett Davis and Audrey Davis.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church conducted by Rev. Fr. Richard Meredith. Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors. Pallbearers will be Tony Esposito, Richard Dymek, David Dobbins, John Soldo, Steve Kinnard and Jim Creighton.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with vigil prayers being said at 7:00 p.m.
